Disabled athletes and spectators are always in view
Right from the beginning, when the regatta course “Beetzsee” was expanded, great attention was paid to paying attention to the needs of people with disabilities. For athletes as well as spectators with disabilities, the conditions have been improved step by step in recent years in order to enable them to participate equally in sporting activities and to provide largely barrier-free access to all areas of the sports facility. For example, a paved path was created that runs along the banks of the saddle. A ramp with a very slight slope leads wheelchair users to a specially made jetty, which makes it very easy for them to get on and off. The sub-object “Barrier-free system components and building adaptations” realized as part of an extensive conversion and expansion program also included the demolition of the old staircase and the new construction of better access to the functional building while at the same time adapting the paths in the outdoor area. In addition, the installation of disabled toilet facilities in the various parts of the building was carried out by modifying and completely expanding the existing premises.

Brandenburg an der Havel is a city that offers its residents and guests a high quality of life in all areas of daily life. Of course, this should also apply to people with disabilities. Therefore, all potentials are exploited to enable them to live a self-determined life. Particular attention is paid to compliance with the relevant legal regulations when planning and implementing infrastructure investments, when refurbishing and building new public buildings or when holding large events. These include e.g. the creation of sufficient parking spaces for the disabled or the establishment of accessible stops and the use of low-floor trams in public transport. A number of shops and the majority of the administrative buildings, cultural facilities and sports and educational facilities are now easily accessible without assistance.
